I'm looking at rebarreling a PH 30.06 to a 338.06 (after many threads on this forum) and was curious about people's experiences on this. This is a sturdy action and will surely handle it. I also plan on a Gaillaird barrel, seeing as he's only a few minutes away. Any thoughts? Thanks

This rifle is a 1000/1100/1200 deries rifle? Not a Midland 2100/2200? The former will be based on one of a number of variants of the 98 Mauser sporting action. Likely any would work just fine in the new caliber. Ted could also duplicate the contour of the original barrel, to reduce alterations to the stock. Because these are Mauser based, any 'smith who fits and chambers barrels should be able to handle the job.

The 2100 series is based on an interesting assembly of parts. It uses a slightly modified surplus Springfield 03A3 bolt, with a slightly modified Mauser shanked sporter barrel, a slightly modified PH Mauser trigger group, a PH Mausermagazine/trigger guard unit, a PH Mauser Sile made stock, all assembled on a cast receiver.

I built mine on an 81 classic model which was a great rifle, aside from the barrel being way too heavy, eventually making me dread packing it so I sold it.
It was very accurate with the heavy slugs but not worth a darn with bullets any lighter than 225gr. That would be more the barrel than the rifle. Shot most of my animals with that one rifle, if I did my part it was bang flop.

thanks tiriaq...it's fairly accurate with 165's, so i'll leave as is.
