My trusty ruger m77 mkii 7mm rem mag is starting to throw the odd flier as she heats up. She's been hunted hard and has had quite a few rounds down the pipe over the years, shooting long range and hunting. Her cold bore accuracy is still fine but recent range sessions tell me it might be time to look for a barrel replacement.
I love the rifle so it only makes sense to upgrade the barrel versus buying another comparable rifle.
Anyone do this job themselves?
I'm capable and have most of the tools needed ..... no lathe though and might need to pick up a finishing reamer I guess.
So far I'm just in the beginning stages of looking for what's availlable and who might be able to do the work should i opt not to.
I contacted IBI because they are a BC business and the closest option but they can only provide me with a blank..... they didn't mention if they could profile it, rough chamber and thread it to ruger spec...... they just suggested i contact a gunsmith. yay

anyone got any comments or recommendations?
I'd like to see the work completed sometime in 2027

KS Arms can contour their blanks to whatever contour you want. If he has the reamer I'd get Ken at Accuracy Development Solutions to do the job.

IBI are making Good barrels - they have lots of contours available - Gary Flach has a new shop up in Eastgate ! He's a Good smith (y)

IBI shows 'in stock' barrels 'wait-less steel blanks' of various bore size and contours including 7mm. you'd just need to have it threaded/chambered and trimmed to your spec

edit- looking again IBI also has 'barrel-nut pre-fits' in various cartridges but not a listing for Ruger M77, just RPR and 'merican actions
they could likely build the chamber and contour and your smith could cut the tenon thread, if it is different(?)

another option would be to have pre-fit for another action re-cut to Ruger tenon thread of 1"
Savage large shank starts at 1 1/8"

Sounds like you have all the tools you need except the tools you need. Hire a gunsmith.
I've reabarrelled and finish reamed a few hundred rifles over the years including many krieger short chambered and finished Criterion barrels..... mostly M14/M1A types.
I realize bolt guns have thier nuances though and I am not a "gunsmith" in the proper sense of the term.
That said I have barrel vices and action wrenches , head space guages and pull thru reamer kits...... just no lathe for threading or setting shoulders , cutting chambers or profiling barrels.
Not really aware of any canadian prefits for a ruger m77 mkii but Criterion offers one i might look at though importing one right now will probably be cost prohibitive LOL
I'll contact some of the places folks here have mentioned and see what happens

Interesting.

I have a new takeoff stainless tikka 7mm rem barrel sitting on the shelf
I did the opposite and had the custom barrel off my Ruger MKII screwed on a Tikka. Corlane did the job. They said it’s an easy job but usually do the opposite, as discussed here, and install take off Tikka barrels on Rugers.
