Rebarrel Cost - Savage 99

How blank is the blank? ...as in how much does it need to be profiled/contoured? If it is full blank that can easily be $100 or more...

Threading, fitting, chambering, crowning without any contouring or milling or drilling or tapping or fitting any wood or sight or any action work about $300.

The Savage 99 is more work than the average bolt action for a couple of reasons. First, there are two extractor cuts to be made (actually, only one is an extractor cut but the other cut looks like....). In addition, the forend attachment piece has to be dovetailed into the barrel. The location is fairly critical. Unless the barrelmaker supplies a blank contoured precisely the same as the factory barrel, some re-contouring and/or stock fitting will be necessary.
I'm assuming your Savage is in a 308. Any other caliber and the magazine spool will need modification. Add money. If iron sights are desired, add more. Dennis' estimate is a good starting point. Regards, Bill

I don't know about the Savage 99 but I had a Winchester 88 re-barreled to 338 Fed. Total cost was $1300 with new barrel. powder coat and a Boyd's laminate stock fitted. I believe the barrel was $400.00 and chambering an fitting extra.
