Can anybody give me an idea on what it would cost to rebarrel a T3 lite SS? I've got a .243 that I may consider switching over to a 7mm/08 one day.

Is this conversion even possible?

Thanks

Yep, it CAN be done but unless the 243's shot out, you're probably better going with a new gun altogether. Re-barrelling sporters isn't usually worth it, unless you can find a cheap take-off barrel somewhere

You'd probably save money buy selling it and buying a new one. The used market for these is pretty good, so it'd move quick. Most people would rebarrel a gun that is no longer available in their configuration, or a gun that is expensive to replace.

I found a Ruger 22-250 without a stock and not looking good barrel that my father in-law left when they moved. I was thinking of rebarrelling but it seems it is better to buy new than restore. Lets say spending about $800 for a rifle?

$800? maybe closer to $900 by the time you're done with the finishing.
And while there is certainly nothing wrong with the Ruger short action, ther's not much of a market for it either, with a brand new Remington action going for around $300 ( http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99019)

Hi Maynard

Could you elaborate on your rebarrel your $550 is about half of what other people are suggesting. I would be interested in who did the work. Barrel Manufacturer. Was this a do it yourself project.

On a side note what did you do with the other barrel?

Trevor,
The barrel is a McClennen (sp) regular Palma contour. The last barrel was the same but a heavy Palma Contour. I had to rebarrel because the rifle was over weight (6.5 Kg limit) in the new aluminum stock.
The barrel was put on by a gunsmith near Kitchener. PM me for his name and number.
The old barrel is just sitting here. It could end up as a .300WM on a hunting rifle or it may just sit here until the DCRA changes the weight limit again or my eyesight fails enough to go to "F" Class:p Time for me to run for cover:dancingbanana:

or my eyesight fails enough to go to "F" Class
We've been telling you for years to shoot F class.:p

You can get a Gaillard barrel for about $350 plus tax, and gunsmithing for $250 plus tax. This new rifle will probably outshoot the original barrel.

Barrels are usually $300 and up but the gunsmithing depends on what gunsmith has to do, alot more $ if he has to reblue barrel and action, polish barrel first, etc!

I think the other way.. a rebarrel with a match grade stainless barrel will be better than a factory rifle. I look at a factory rifle as the beginning of a fine rifle when the original barrel is replaced.

I think you can have most hunting rifles rebarreled with a quality barrel for $650 or less.

Does anyone know if Gaillard build hunting weight barrels and how to get in touch with him. Or any smith that can install a good barrel for 600.00

Yes, he makes hunting weight barrels, and here's how to get in touch with him.

Why would you want a Remington action?

It has been and still is the strongest and safest mass produced action made, and still is a most desirable action for the basis of a precision rifle. As mentioned above, many stocks and accessories are made for it.
