Been looking for a carbine barrel for a Winchester Mod 1892 & just had an interesting chat with a gentleman who told me that a barrel from a winchester mod 43 would fit!?

Has anyone done this? Apparently all the needs to be done is a cutout for the extractor......

I am not familiar with the M43 - Does anyone know if:
- the barrel profile is the same? (for a 25-20/32-20 carbine)
- the front sight is the same?
- is all that really needs to be done is the extractor cutout?

-thanks!

oh - also, one of the barrels available is in .22 Hornet, (a cartridge I am not familiar with) looking at it, it looks long for a 92 action and it has a conical projectile..... it is feasible/possible to use the in a 92 action?

I don't think your bolt face will work on the hornet as its smaller if I remember right but google will give you dimensions. A 43 barrel might fit except for an extractor cut but a winchester lever barrel is usually milled flat or has a concave cut in the bottom of it at the receiver so the magazine tube will fit.

I suspect the gentleman meant to say Winchester Mod. 53 (same receiver as '92). Barrels from the bolt action Mod. 43 would not likely be an easy fit to the lever action '92

yea - I wasn't much interested in the hornet barrel anyway and had completely forgotten about the relief cut into the bottom of the 92 barrels.... (glad I asked here first!)

that makes a lot of sense, though there was quite a bit of discussion about the 43' being a bolt... seems that I have some more homework to do.

thanks guys!
