Hello
I currently have a Tikka TX3 CTR chambered in 6.5 PRC and a 7 mm RM barrel.

Can someone tell me exactly what I need to swap the barrel ?

I know I need gauges but not sure about tools.
My friend (former member) was a gunsmith, used to help me with this stuff, but sadly he passed away last week.

Thanks

Brian

If its the factory barrel on the CTR then an External Action wrench for the initial removal. Then use an internal for install and torque of the 7mm RM barrel. You will also need to change out the bolt stop on the tikka (parts can be had from stoeger or elsewhere) and you will also need a mag that fits the 7mm RM.

An yes its good practice to use a set of gauges. Once headspace is checked and gtg then take it to the range and fire away.

I am currently working on a very similar situation. I may have missed a step but I am sure others will chime in.

Cheers,
B

P.S. My condolences to you about your friend and the former members family.

*EDIT* - A good rubber mallet as well.

Soak the barreled action well for a few days. i put mine upright and let penetrating fluid sink down into the action/barrel threads they are a but of a Pain to break apart compared to remingtons

a good barrel vise and action wrench are key. i used a rem 700 wrench and flipped the top over so it was flat against the top of the action and the round part on the bottom. a SAC vise with bushings that fit properly and some drywall tape on the barrel and action helps the vise and wrench grip without marring

clamp everything down tight and a couple good whacks with a mallet

Thanks
Now the hunt for an action wrench an barrel vise.

If you have a heavy duty bench vise you can try to find some "soft jaws" for it. An I got my internal action wrench from PR Precision (Paul) I think he just ran a batch through bluing. I also believe he does external action wrenches as well.

I’ll look in to those, thanks.

I did an old Savage 10 TR before, using a bench vise and a pair of channel locks, wasn’t so bad, though the barrel nut got chewed up a bit.
Heard the Tikka was more difficult,so thought I may as well get the correct tools. Still got the PRC barrel to shoot out first, so gotta bit of time.
