I realize this has probably been asked a million times, but....

I have a 700 heavy barrel in .243 that came off the donor action for my new project. Now I'm left with this .243 barrel. Is it possible to have it re-bored to .260 Rem??

On one hand, I have a 24", precontoured, threaded, cut and crowned barrel, that technically is chambered too. It may need a quick finish with a .260 reamer and headspaced, but essentially it's all there. Is it really that much more expensive to have it reamed and rifled?? Does anyone have a ballpark figure as to the cost of this?

Is it possible to actually go up to this caliber size by removing all the pre existing lands?? Or would I have to skip to the 7mm08 ??

Ask Ted Gaillard in Pathlow Sask. He is one of the best barrel makers in the country. If he says it is possible (and worth his time) take his advice.

"...have it re-bored..." Reboring requires a lot of expensive equipment and a highly skilled smithy. If you can find another receiver, you could have it rechamberd to .243 AI. Or just sell it as is. I would think that a heavy .243 barrel would be an easy sale.

As far as I know, yes you can rebore it to .264 diameter. It will take out the rifling. You could not rebore it to .257 though, and remove all of the rifling.
