I have a Browning BAR in .308, there is nothing wrong with is aside from being chambered for a pretty vanilla cartridge. I've searched google and couldn't come up with anybody that makes replacement barrels, so I was wondering about the possiblity of having it rebored.

I would like to have it rebored to .358 if possible. But I'm not sure if there will be enough meat left in the barrel, or if it may need to be shortened a bit to ensure there is enough material left around the bore. OD measurements are as follows, lengths are measured from the front of the reciever:

21 5/8" (Muzzle) = 0.581"
20" = 0.616"
19" = 0.624"

Any and all opinions welcome, and if anybody has the name and contact info of somebody who might be up to the task it would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t remember whether it was Smith or Jury but one of them told me it’s not recommended to try to rebore a hammer-forged barrel. Your barrel is likely hammer-forged since that’s how the big guys crank out guns.

Ron redid my steyr from 30-06 to 9.3x62 the other year. He said it went fine and it shoots just fine.

It will likely be Ron's son that will do the work though, I was out there about 6 months ago and his son was kinda taking things over, but he isn't a young fella and seems quite capable.

Ron did me up a 38-55 on a Marlin 336 pre-safety formerly a 30-30 /not a waffle top. It was Ron that didn't like trying to work on Sako's or BRNO re-bores.Figured he'd know.

Labounty also had ‘concerns’ with reboring Sako hammer forged barrels ... apparently there were some hammer forged barrels he would rebore others not. Just going from what I have read which included a comment attributed to Labounty that Sako barrels were ‘hard on his tools’
