All,

Unfortunately, I lost a good friend a few weeks back. Among his other accomplishments, he served in the late '70s and early '80s as a weapons tech and paratrooper. He was the most loyal friend you'd ever have. I miss him a ton.

He was a firearms collector (of course) and two of the things he left behind are a stripped-down K98 and a FB Radom. He talked about rebuilding them but never got around to it. I'd like to do it for him.

  • The 1943 K98 is a receiver, bolt (not matching, unfortunately) and barrel. Nothing else - not even a trigger group or sights.
  • The 1934 Radom has the sights and trigger group but is missing the stock set and all the bits. Bolt also not matching. (I know the stock is close to that of a K98, but I'd like to get the proper one.)

K98 gear is easy(ish) enough to find. Radom... eesh.

Can any of you recommend possible sources for stocks, parts, etc.? My default is Numrich, but if I can avoid the US border, that would be great.

I want to restore these rifles to service condition - not pristine collectable condition, but shootable condition. I'd like to be able to take his family and friends out and shoot them one day.

Thanks for any advice you might have.

B

Fox Military in Poland can reproduce your Polish Mauser's stock as well as the German K98k. They're not cheap and you'll wait a while but they are correct. Post a pic of the crest if you don't mind, some of us like to drool more than usual.

Thanks for that. I will check them out.

Here's the crest. The metal is in really good shape - the pic makes it look as though there is some corrosion, but it's pretty clean.
