I think the eagle crested rifles are ones that century put together. Or is it the crown rifle? I can't remember.
or Iraqlooks like an old syrian crest.
Yes that's correct. Around 1955, egypt purchased left over receiver but was after the abdication of the king Farouk so the eagle of Saladin was stamped instead of the crown crest. Thoses receiver ended at Century with others spare parts then were assembled to complete rifles.Ok, did some more research. I believe a century assembled rifle from parts bought from Egypt. Has a "D" prefix serial number. Sights are marked in English.
Stock has a brass buttplate as well.
Well any FN 49 deserve to be in a collection. Thoses Century put together rifle are nice and should function just fine. Depend how much you want to pay for one. Personnally i am not attracted much because they remain rifle built from parts, not rifle made for the egyptian contract. If you like it, go for it.Joce
What is your opinion of them?
My first thought was to pass, but other boards are giving favourable reviews. In fact a couple have said that only 1500 receivers were made and thus this is a rare variant that any serious collector should have in his collection.
If you like it buy it.
