Anyone buy one lately? How's the fit, finish and QC of late?
I want to buy a new one site unseen and don't want to get stuck with a lemon.
Want to get one soon, before the new governmently engraved ones are out.
Hopefully a decent priced used one will come on the market, but I'm not holding my breath.

We just got some in the store and Im impressed with them. Thinking of replacing my old 30-30.

Let me know which model and I can get you pricing.

There's a short barreled (20"?) CB at my local CT that looks/feels pretty decent....... and I'm not an REM mfg'd fan.

People should really get current instead of blindly parroting years old rhetoric. Sure the post takeover guns had issues, that was then. About 6 years ago I looked at Remlins with intent to buy , horrible wood to metal fitting and the checkering looked worse than if it had been attempted by a blind ape on crack. Fastforward to today. I recently bought a used Remlin made in 2014 that is in mint condition. Fit, function, finish=perfect. Before turning folks off a whole line of products based on past opinions go and sample some present day fact. Cheers

I've handled new ones at LGS and I am impressed. So much so I think I may give one a try. Would like a 44 mag. Fit and finish seem to be really nice. Not sure of function of course.

We are adding more Marlins to our webstore.

I'm impressed with them and have some buddies wanting them for hunting, so I figure we'll keep some on hand. If somethings not on our site, just shoot me an email or PM

Yes, my sentiments exactly and this echoes my experiences with Marlin, most recently with a 1894 in .44 mag. Great wood, great fit and finish and flawless function.

New manufactured are good to go.

You are making an assumption that this is the case.......
Some members here may have more experience with Marlins (new/transition/old) than you do.

I always encourage anyone considering a new Marlin purchase to check them out in person, not just solicit other people's opinion. With the exception of the odd 1895 I've seen as of late, Marlin still hasn't managed to get the wood fit, finish & checkering to the same level as pre 2007. There are still random thin rifling and poor barrel crown issues as well as the horrific Remington matte Finnish / laminate stocks on some models of the 336.

If this is acceptable to you for the price point, and or you got a decent one (which I will agree exist), then enjoy.

Cheers

This! Thank you for putting this so eloquently. I get so sick of hearing guys complain about how bad all the new ones are when we have sold literally dozens of them with no issues whatsoever!

Point taken, however I have had the pleasure of repairing my turn of the century 1893 in 30-30, my current model 36 (1893 receiver), my early 70s 336 (that I still regret selling) my newer 1895 in 45-70 and my Henry big boy in .44 (Marlin action basically). Working on these and repairing them could lead one to believe that I may have a little insight into Marlin actions, or then again.......maybe not.

Good advice to check them out in person. All manufacturers have ones that slip through, or sales people who accidentally stick a customer return back on the rack.

I was not trying to imply that you did not have any experience with Marlins. Working on and repairing a rifle really is the best way to understand the inner workings of it.

What I was referring to is the guys who have been fortunate enough to purchase a decent new Marlin and proclaim that the dark days are over.
I have been fortunate enough to have dozens of each: 336's, 1894's, 1895's in various chamberings from various years 1952-2016 pass through my hands. I also never pass up a chance when in a gun store to check out the latest stock. Based on my experiences with these rifles, I would still not blindly order one the way I did in the past or would with any other major rifle manufacturer.

Just my 2 cents.

Love my SBL, sold my Henry. I couldn't stand the mag tube 22 style loading on the Henry. A friend got back to his car and found he didn't have the tube anymore. Lucky he backtracked and found it. The only lever I like more than my SBL is my Uberti custom sport short rifle in 45LC
