Rechambering possiblity question.

It can be done, no real reason to though. The 257 Bob in the featherweight configuration is a bit of a rarity and is worth more as is.

I have a Winchester model XTR Featherweight in 257 Roberts is it possible to have it rechambered to 25-06 and is it worth doing? Would to hear your comments Thanks and merry Christmas to all.

First of all take a 25-06 and place it in the magazine... does it fit correctly? Then see if it feeds up and starts into the chamber correctly. If it fits the magazine correctly and feeds up correctly you could convert with out too much trouble. The 25-06 would benefit from a longer barrel than 22 inches but your velocities would still be 200 feet/second faster than the Roberts. You would need to find a gunsmith with a 25-06 reamer to do the job.

I have the same opinion as JJ-65, an XTR in .257R is a bit of a rarity and any I’ve seen for sale go quick. If your not a reloader that might make a difference, but in today’s world 25/06 might be harder to locate also what your end use shooting desire is.
Selling the 257 and the $$ from rechambering should almost get you what you want in the ‘06.
I’m pretty well stocked up and enjoy my Rem 760/.257 and this one that I haven’t had out, just waiting on warm days.

End use to hunt miley's and whitetail will ever sell it was my first rifle 40+ years ago have lots of other large calibers was just wondering if I can justify changing this one around, or just purchase what I want.

OP, all of the above is good advice.

I have a Remington 700 Classic chambered for the 257 Rob with a 22in bbl.

If you hand load, in such a rifle as your XTR there is no reason why you can't achieve safely, factory 25-06 velocities.

I do it without issue in the Remington and the Winchester FWT I sold to a person that kept peeling off hundreds until he became the proud owner of the FWT, fitted with a Habicht, fixed power 6X scope. Both of these rifles shot the same load well with 100-115 bullets.

The handloading manuals give higher pressure loads, but even those are tailored to curtsey to weaker actions with slow 1-14 twist rates.

You can purchase 257R+P ammo but it's still on the light side all around.

I'm willing to bet that if you put that rifle up for trade on the EE it won't last the day.

Why are you stuck on the 25 calibers???

At this point in the firearms world the 6.5s offer a much broader range in a very similar niche.

This was the first rifle I ever owned so will die with me! Just thought I could make it better, have many different calibers in the vault to choose from and reload for all I have most guns have never fired a factory round. Shoots 3/4 moa now and taken the biggest buck I have ever shot in 40 years. Probably best to buy another toy in 25-06 or 7-08 to fill to space between 7mm wsm and 300 wm.

Fully understandable.

I gave my first rifle to my step son when it was time for him to learn to shoot and hunt.
