Rechambering to the Ackley

Made up my mind to move to 243AI or 223 AI for brass stability and just to try something new. I currently have an unfired Remington in 223Rem and am wanting some feedback on rechambering to AI. One smith I spoke to said that he would not do it as there can be problems in lining up the pilot/reamer and that could result in the dimensions of the chamber being off spec. I assume the biggest issue would be ensuring that the new shoulder and side of the chamber would be "square" so to speak. I have no real knowledge in this area and would appreciate any comments or real life experience with this.
At this point rebarreling is not going to happen due to cost. I want the most accurate rifle I can afford but really it will just be for punching paper and varmint hunting.

The AI versions use a shorter go gauge so the barrel needs to be set back. (One turn lines the sights/printing up). That requires machining on the shoulder and rear of the barrel and chambering to the correct headspace. All precision work. I would not use the smith you spoke to.
