I am looking for some recipes for the 45-70 (Marlin 1895 Guide Gun). I am specifically looking for some IMR 4198 Recipes. Anyone have anything they can suggest (and Yes I know visit their websites, but I want to know other peoples personal favourites)
Also I was wondering if anyone has the Jae-Bok Recipes laying around?

These are chrono loads from my guide gun. Imr4198 38g-1533fps, 39g-1585,40g-1627,41-1673,42-1725,43-1761,44-1792. With H322 a load of 55g gave 1913fps. With imr4895 and 55g -1707fps. All loads were with a winchester primer and a remington 405 grain jacket bullet.

I know you're looking for 4198 but Reloader 7 is great for so many reasons. Start at 44 grains with a Hornady 350 and work up to 50. 46 grains of RL7 gave a combination of power and awesome accuracy in a Marlin GG. The 350 Hornady RN crimping groove is designed for the Marlin OAL restrictions and the bullet matches up close to the lands for great accuracy.

Now I see why my load of 46 grains of IMR 4198 with a 420 grain cast bullet made my head ache! It was accurate, though. Four out of five went into a one inch group at 100 metres.
 
Switch that powder to IMR 30-31.Also go to a 400gr. bullet. At 38.5 grains of powder I'm registering 1474 ft.per sec.Also I am grouping under .25 of an inch at 100 yards

I use 30 grains imr 4198 with a cast 405 for a nice light plinking load and 48 grains of IMR 4198 with a hornady 350 gr flat nose for a hunting load. Out of my guide gun the 350's went through the chrony at about 1920fps (the book shows about 150 fps faster but probably with a longer barrel).

Look on the Hodgdon web site at their reloading data, great place to start.
 
Speaking of using IMR 4198 in a Marlin guide gun, there are a couple I hold near & dear. With jacketed bullets, two of my favorites are the Speer 400gr Flat-SP or the 405gr Remington, and the maximums listed in the Speer manual do nicely.
