Ok, I need info from the expert reloaders here. I've visited the website for my powder manufacturer (Alliant Powder) regarding Green Dot that I have and plan to use to reload 9mm.

I'll be using 121gr bullets and was told that if I can't find a recipe for 121gr, I could start by using the same recipe as a 124gr bullet.

Problem is none of my manuals, nor the Alliant website give a recipe for 121gr or 124gr bullets using Green Dot powder.

Anyone know where I could find this information?

BTW, in case you can't tell. I'm new to reloading and this will be my first try at it......please talk slowly.

Reloading 9mm

Alliant web site -

124 grain bullet FMJ - 5.2 grains Green Dot
115 grain bullet FMJ - 4.7 grains Green Dot

Nothing for 121 grain.

I personally use Bullseye for 9mm, 124 grain 3.5 , very accurate, can go to 4.5 with no problem.

Good luck,

Did you get that through the "Interactive Reloader's Guide"? Cause I don't see the 124 FMJ there. I get 115, 125, 147 and 95.

Would the 125 recipe be close enough? Like I said, this is going to be my first crack at it....I'm being careful.

Thanks for the info.

9mm

Sorry about that, you are right it is 125 grain, yes it would be safe to load the 124 the same, if you are doubtfull drop to 5 grains even to start,

Good luck and enjoy

Yeah, see....that's where the problem is. I was going to use the 124 recipe to load 121's.

I've got some calculations done, on how much powder I should be using....but I'd rather go with something rock solid.

9mm

OK I went looking in my manuals and found the following, never knew there was a 121 grain 9mm.

Lyman 47th. Manual

121 grain #2 alloy, lead
Blue Dot start - 5.9 grains
max - 8.0 grains

125 grain JSP
Blue Dot start 6.1 grains
max 8.0 grains

 :canadaFlag:

121 grain #2 alloy, lead Manual states these loads using Winchester cases and primers
Green Dot start 3.9 grains
max 4.8 grains

Green dot is lot shown for the 125 grain.

That's awesome.

Thanks alot.

I finally got a response from Alliant Powder and they told me to just use the same recipe as the 125gr. It is however hotter than the one above.

I think I'll start with the above mentioned recipe and work my way up from there.

Ok, I got a confirmation from Alliant Powder about the load.

Here it is, in case anyone else would need it...(first post in this thread is how the email starts.):

Data for a 124 or 125 gr bullet will work fine. Is this bullet lead or
jacketed?

Jacketed sir......Montana Gold 121gr IFP

Then try a load for either a 124 or 125 gr jacketed bullet. The loads in our tables are max, so reduce by 10% and star there. This will put you at about 4.7 grs of Green Dot.

Thanks for the input guys!!

With Green Dot & with a triconical or even a RN cast bullet you could reduce the loads down to 4.2, 4.0, or even 3.8 & still have good results.

We do a lot of indoor shooting, at our Club with max of 20 yds to the above does the job. Using Unique you could use around the same loads or if outdoors use the same or even increase them to 4.5 gr. Personally I like the lighter loads.

Obviously with jacketed or partially jacketed bullet tips the loads can be the same or even a bit lighter.
