I am looking for what powder/recipes IPSC shooters in the production class are using for their 9 mm luger with 124 FMJ RN bullets? I am looking for a load which is accurate and not too snappy.

Thanks!!

I'm running 4.0gr of Titegroup with Campro 124gr pill. It comes up at 130PF and pretty accurate in my Shadow 2. I made up some 3.8gr and 3.9gr pills and the 3.9gr was pretty accurate but my chrony wasn't working the day I tried to get some numbers. I'm guessing the 3.8gr TG will be too close to the 125PF. Got the chrony up and running again so I'll get some numbers if I get to the range this week.

Went to chrony my 147gr loads today and seems my Chrony is f'ked. Got to send it in again, FFS.

I'm using 4.4gr Titegroup with Berry's Plated 9mm 124gr. It works very well for me and has no problem making minor for IPSC.

lol, I should hope so as 4.4gr of TG is on the hot side. Hodgdon recomended max is 4.1gr TG for a 124gr pill which, according to them, generates 1057fps from a 4" barrel. At 4.4gr TG, I'm guessing your loads are in the 140+PF.

I have the Lee 2nd Edition which gives max load 4.4gr vel= 1136.

How does TiteGroup meter? How much case volume is 4.4 gr? Easy to get double charge or easy to spot?

Should be pretty hard to miss a double charge. That being said it is possible if you are not paying attention. I have a easier time making a squib than double charge tho.

I use a powder cop die. I like using powders that fill case that way you take 1 possible malfunction out of the process(double charge)....likee you said though that still leaves squib possibility.

Titegroup meters pretty good in my Hornady LNL AP. At 4.4gr, you can easily see a double charge in a 9mm case as it'll be 4/5 full. 4.4gr of TG is going to be snappy.

As long as you make 130PF, the load is a fore thought when shooting.
Develop a load that is 100% reliable (makes PF and fires)
Then never, ever change it.

The ammo does not make you shoot better. And changing ammo will effect far more in your training that you would expect. Keep the action timing consistent and never look back.

Now there is something to be said about heavier bullets producing a softer recoil.
Its more if a push and less muzzle flip from the snap.
But again. Train with 115gr and you will be at no dissadvantage.

Enjoy!

This is a load I worked up for 124gr Campro HP bullets. I may switch back to it after I use up my current stock of 147gr bullets

Hi what I'd the AOL and the taper crimp on your reload Trinimon?

I crimp my 9mm to .379" - .380". I picked up some dropped ammo after cleaning up the range after a match. Wow, some guys put so much crimp on their 9mm, the pulled pill looked like it was wearing a skirt.

124gr Campro with 4.0gr Titegroup at 1.115" OAL was 130PF out of my Glock last time I chrony'ed em about 3yrs ago. I need to check 'em out of my S2.

147gr Campro with 3.3gr Titegroup at 1.100" OAL (a CZ sponsored Shadow2 shooter told me he met PF with 3.2gr Titegroup but 3.3gr shot pretty accurate for me. I'm waiting for my chrony to come back from recalibration to verify it).

As stated above I noticed a big difference in starting load data for 124gr with titegroup when comparing load data from my lee manual and campros website. I'm working up a load to run in both my M&P and carbine - why the discrepancy between the 2 sources?

Nine Major is a 9 mm Luger (9X19) case loaded to make Major power factor for practical shooting competitions. It has become popular for Open division guns since the power factor was reduced to 165 (in USPSA) and 160 pf in IPSC and the 9 mm Luger was no longer outlawed from this division. This is good news for us that want to take our guns across the boarder to shoot. 9mm major is perfectly fine to use in IPSC and works well instead of the 38 super which is hard to find brass for. 9mm brass is much cheaper.
Its always a good idea to build up your loads, all guns will give you different results.
I like to keep my OAL to around 1.170 MAX but I average 1.167 if its to long then the rounds will not stack properly in the mags.
125gr. VV 3n37, 8.0gr in my 5" 169-170pf
124gr - HS6 - 8.5gr 1381 fps - 171pf
124gr - HS6- 7.8gr 1325 fps - 165pf
124gr JHP Silhouette 7.1g Ave=1343 PF=166.5
