So it's ugly as sin as all muzzle brakes are, at least in my eyes, but I had a new X-Bolt in .280 Ackley Improved at the range today to sight in and break in. It's chunky and does a pretty good job of fumigating the firing line when the rifle fires.
That said, I had two other rifles out for shooting (three actually, but the Zastava didn't bother to fire when I pulled the trigger).
One was a Remington SPS Tactical in .223, heavy barrel, in a B&C stock. Pretty heavy, so very little recoil, just under 10 pounds.
The other was my Browning BAR .270 Win, which is a normal "hunting weigh" rifle coming in at about 8.5 pounds.
Felt recoil was somewhere in between the two. I was pretty surprised at the result, I know the X-Bolt model (Max Long Range) isn't very light but the BAR uses a gas-operated system which takes a lot of the bite out of most rounds - easy to shoot all day with just a t-shirt on, but even launching 162's out of the AI case kicked less than the BAR sending warm-but-not-hot 140gr loads.
Just figured I'd share, this ugly thing shoots pretty nice.
But it's loud as hell though!
