Recoil of the 22 mag

They both put out 300-400 ft/lb of energy, depending on barrel length, so isolating that factor alone, it suggests they would be at least similar.

(Obviously a side-by-side comparison is more useful a metric).
 
What's the weight of the gun you are shooting the .22Mag from?

I've got a little NAA revolver that came with the LR and Mag cylinders. I found that the .22WMR from this gun had a nice punch to it but even with the light 9 oz weight the .22 mag does not recoil as strongly as my 36'ish oz CZ 75. So I'd suggest that while both might have the same sort of energy in the bullet that the far heavier weight of the 9mm bullet results in a lot more recoil impulse.

If shot from a regular weight sort of handgun I'd expect the .22Mag to have a lot less felt recoil than a 9mm. It would be more stout than a .22LR of course but well down from a 9

That was a complete and utter lie, it's got a minor amount of kick, nothing to stress out about.

Given the weight of most single action revolvers, the felt recoil from a .22WMR would be negligible. Certainly not even close to a 9mm. But definitely a bit more recoil than a .22 LR fired from a similar SA revolver.
