I have a Savage 111 in .270 Win its solid hard rubber pad is beating the crap out of my shoulder. I'm used to the brass plate on a .303 Lee Enfield but this is so much worse. I was looking at the Limb Saver or Pachymere pads. The problem is I can't find a pad that matches the apparently wider screw hole configuration of a Savage synthetic stock. Can anyone help me with either a pad that will fit or a how-to to make one fit? The screw holes in the replacement pads are a good 1/2" narrower than the screw holes in the savage stock. I checked at Ellwood Epps and couldn't find a pad that would fit, they have about 30 different pads.

Thanks for your help.

Look at:

www.limbsaver.com

click on the drop down button for "firearms", then the button for
"precision fit pads" ... scroll down to Savage. There are 4 pads listed
3 for synthetic stocks ... you'll have to check the individual "templates"
for exact measurements which are also there in a drop down box format.
My suspicion id that their # 10111 pre-fit pad may be the one you need.

I've used both "Limbsaver" (grind to fit pads) and Pachmayr's "Old English"
Decelerator models. Both are very good, the Limbsaver seems a little softer
and somewhat "stickier", but no real preference in actual use.The Pachmayr's are easier to grind and to me at least, look a little better.

"...synthetic stock..." That'd be your problem. The light weight stock increases the felt recoil. Plan 'A' would be Camk's idea. That's actually what Pachmayr says to do anyway. There's a how-to on their site.
Plan 'B' would be a slip on from Pachmayr.

10111 is the closest fit to my Stevens, but even it requires trimming. And the screw holes don't line up, but I just ran the screws through the pad in the correct place. Lube 'em up with vaseline, and the pad 'heals' around the holes, and you're all good.
