I have a simple little project for an old single shot 12 ga. I am looking for a grind to fit recoil pad. Does anyone know of a reasonable priced unit out there. So far all I have found are some pachmayers and they are $70 ish with tax which is more than I want to spend on a $80 gun.

Thanks

I don't think the Limbsaver grind to fit pad is much cheaper. A few years ago the Pachmyers could be had for about $35. This is the world we are living in now. Maybe someone has some gently used take off pads that can be reground to fit your stock? What is the shotgun you are working on?

It is an old CIL. Model 402. It has an old recoil pad that was put on years ago but it is hard as a rock.

I was hoping to avoid those slip on pads because they are so ugly.

It doesn't matter what kind of recoil pad you put on that old CIL. It's still going to kick the heck out of your shoulder. Maybe if it's a 410 or 20 gauge it will help but anything bigger????????

The only thing I have found that effectively reduces recoil on single shot and side by side shotguns is a larger butt.

I have installed mechanical recoil reducing butt adapters and mercury cylinders as well. As you say, it's an $80 rifle but on the other hand it's a fine rifle that if well taken care of is absolutely reliable.

Does the stock fit you properly????

I have a Pachmayr Decelerator Slip-On Recoil Pad Black #0441 that im not using.

You can have it, just cover shipping.

Get a pair of 7 dollar flip flops .
Cut it out ,glue it on and finish it off with a file.

Works like a charm.
Glued in with a good quality epoxy and finished with a belt sander plus some hand sanding/filing to finish it off:
