I have two rifles that need new recoil pads. One is an older Sako 375 H&H the other is a German Made Weatherby in 300. Both are very classic and classy firearms and I'd like to have a pad that compliments there beaty but is also very effective at reducing recoil. What are some options? Much thanks.

Sig.

The Pachmayr Decelerator Old English # D752B is a very nice looking pad and effective. I've used several over the years.

Question

I have a CZ 550 in 375 H & H with a nice looking recoil pad. Similarlity, I have a nice Ruger M 77 Mk 2 in 257 Roberts. The recoil pad of the Ruger looks really nice with the wood stock. But both these guns kick like a sum of a #####.

I expect the 375 to kick like the devil. But the Ruger 257 Roberts is freakish. I actually own two other 257 Roberts where I do not notice the recoil at all. But the Ruger kicks me harder than did my ex-wife.

Could this be because of the factory recoil pads in the CZ and Ruger? Are these pads NFG? Would the pachmyr really be better than the factory pad? I have never tried the pachmyr and have no idea whether they are worth the effort, compared to these factory pads.

A friend of mine had a pre-64 model 70 Winchester in .257 Roberts, absolutely stock and for some reason it kicked harder than his 7mm Magnum Sako. The 70 weighed over 9lbs. with scope and according to the ballistics charts should have been mild in the recoil department. Maybe a really undersize bore? I don't know.

I like the decelerators as well as they do look classy but they do the job they are there to do - absorb recoil. I am toying with putting a silvers orange pad on my 6.5-284 but they are hard as hell. I can't for the life of me understand how people can use these on the hard kicking nitro guns they claim they end up on. They are hard rubber. I still like the look of them........a little anyway.
