This has probably been done to death but what recoil spring is currently in your 1911A1.

I changed mine to ISMI 14lbs to see if muzzle will flip less on my Springfield 1911A1. The original spring is 16lbs. Also I am thinking about getting tungsten guide rod to help counter recoil. And probably get recoil buffers as well.

FYI, my loads are 5.2gr TG with 200SWC seated between 1.240-1.245", I havent messure the velocity with this lenght but similar load was chrony at around 900fps, to make major for IPSC.

What were your experiences with one spring versus another???
Will 14lbs spring kick the brass closer to me, 16lbs sends the brass flying over 10ft sometimes.

Which tungsten guide rod you recommend???

Presently I have 2-piece recoil spring guide with guide plug.

One more question.

My trigger pull weight is around 4-1/4lbs, and I wish to lower down to 2lbs, do I require to buy whole trigger assembly or gunsmith can adjust pull down without trigger assembly?

FWIW I have always used a lighter then stock recoil spring in my 1911s. For a .45, I use a 14lb spring with 1 shokbuff. I used to use Wolff's springs but have since switch mine to ISMI's. I find they hold the spring rate longer then Wolff's. YMMV.

If you are going to reload, either for IPSC or just for plinking, you should really chrono you own loads and not just depend on "book value" for info.

I would think the stock Springfield parts should be good to bring the trigger down to about 2.5-3lbs.

I just changed out the recoil spring in my Kimber this week and put an 18# in it. I took it to the range that day and put 150 rounds thru it and it ran perfect. I kind of like the heavier spring, even though there is a little more muzzle flip. Besides, I also won $50.00 that same day off of some suit that thought his $2000 Les Baer was the cats ass. Nice pistol but he couldn't shoot it worth a damn.

Other way around, the brass is going to go farther. How far the brass goes is related to the resistance bulling it back. Less spring = less resistance.

SA internals should not need to be replaced, but the labor from the pistolsmith might equal the price of replacing the parts.
A pistolsmith should get the whole gun. For a light trigger, the parts should be fitted to the gun. Once the parts are worked, it must be test fired to ensure that it functions without going full auto or fires at all.
