If I remember right, the ft/lbs is about the same (30-06 vs 12g) but the 30-06feels "sharper" if it makes sence.
 
If you are use to shooting a 12 gauge you will be fine with a .30-06 or a .308.
Don't even worry about it. We could go into detail about the exact ft. lbs of recoil, but there are many variables including bullet weight, velocity, weight of the rifle, the shape of the stock etc............but there isn't really much point, all in all recoil will be similar.
 
Like the other guys said if your comfortable with the shotgun you should be fine with a '06 or 308. they don't kick much but they are all that is needed for most North American game.
