I am looking for a new gopher rifle. Right now I have a CZ 513. Works great. Just wanting to change it up a bit. I have done the 22wmr and 17hmr thing. The rounds I shoot it gets expensive for gophers. If I want to explode them I use the 22-250. Anyway that narrows me to 22LR. Possible 17hm2? I know they are a little cheeper.
Where I shoot them I like to lay down with a bi-pod. Shots out to 150ish.
Anyway. Trying to get something around 400-500$ mark with a scope.

What do you recommend.

My Savage MK2 FV has served me very well since I bought it

$239.00 shipped to my door step left me a lot of play for an optic, rings, bipod and three 10 rounds magazine. My budget was also 500.00$ total for the rig.

Shot toonie sized grouping with Remington Yellow Jacket at 100m, longest kill achieved at 130m (measured with GPS and range finder). Hits that gopher popper target at 120m with great success (90% success rate maybe 95)

Feel free to PM me

Pretty hard to beat the Savage MK2 Stainless Heavy barrel for $425. Accurate as a CZ far as I'm concerned. 150yds is about max for accuracy out of a .22lr. Semi auto is what I prefer though cause most gophers I see aren't much beyond 100. Used to be a fan of 1022s but they suck as far as accuracy. Using an inexpensive Marlin 795 now and loving it.

Well....maybe not exactly what you're looking for...but I'm having a great time shooting my new 452Varmint in .22lr, expressly for the purpose of setting it up as a gopher-gun. To that end, I bought (and am testing) a Waltz Re-sizing die for .22lr to make the caliber a little more interesting. (talking end-result) So far~very promising. In the event you haven't seen it, here is a blurb about it; http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...int-shoots-OK!-**UPDATE-photos-added-page-3**

HMR is king for gophers (based on a whopping 2-1/2 days of shooting them :) ) but I plan on spending a week doing it this coming spring. That could get a little "spendy" with 17HMR ammo costs and our weak Canadian dollar...so I wanted a good 22 to do the heavy lifting.

I have a Marlin 795 semi auto and it shoots true for $179. Added a Bushnell 3-9 x32 scope for $60. It came with a bonus bore snake. Total package $239.00 plus tax. Hard to beat for the money.

It would be a coin toss for me between the savage mk2 and marlin xt... both in a laminate stock of course. Had both and I kinda miss them now!

CZ452V.

I haven't hunted with it but I can hit dimes and pennies pretty easily at 50m. I haven't sighted it in at 100 but I am sure that's not really a factor. I am not what I would consider an amazing shooter either. Not horrible, but not "pro" by any means.

I know the CZ are accurate. My 513 can shoot under .5" @ 50yrds some times depending on me. My 452 in 22wmr would do 3/4" at 100yrds after I did the trigger.

I went with a savage to try a diffrnt flavor.

Also just got a bushnell 5-15 tactical off the EE. Should be good.

Well I blew my original budget from my original post.

But who cares I'm happy.

Yeah should be fun. I like plinking steel at a long ways out. (For a 22).
Use to do it with my 22wmr.

I would like to try some 400yrd shots on a 10"x10" gong.

Wondering if I would need a 20MOA base for that.
