recommend a first buyer of 9mm carbine please?

I’ve had a Sub-2000 since it first came to Canada. I know there’s a lot of hate for them but I can honestly say after 1000’s of rounds mine is still going strong and has been 100% reliable. I’ve used it at the range, in the bush, camping, etc. and it’s been great.

I actually posted a long time ago some custom load information for the little gun that worked out amazing well for accuracy and consistency. Take a search for it if you’re interested! Good luck!

Have to agree with you on this. Put a Blitzkrieg front sight post and some trigger work and mine just keeps getting more accurate the more I shoot it. Put some JR's and Rugers to shame at the range recently. Not saying all 2000's are this good but mine is. Gen 2 by the way.

If you are new to PCC, do not like to fiddle with your gun to make it work and like a well engineered fireearm the Ruger is hard to beat. Stock it works. Nuff said. The gun is heavy. It is even heavier when you got to the Mlok forearm. On the standard gun the Mlok forearm begs the question...why. If you like more weight on the front end I guess it would appeal. The tactical version of the Ruger looks great, shoots the same as the standard version. It, like it's sisters, is heavy.

My advice go with the Ruger if you want accuracy and dependability out of the box. If you are willing to tinker and spend more money in the process to make the gun run well chase down an FX9 for the cool factor.

I can't comment on the JR as I have never owned or shot one. From the above posts the newer ones work well and deserve a look.

ps Love my standard Ruger PCC. Goes bang every time. It will have to fight for range time behind my new FX9.

in my opinion a great 9mm Carbine Starter would be a Hi Point 995 , say what you want but if you ever actually owned one you would love it, its like a good truck that keeps on going ! it works and is accurate has rails and some aftermarket options and eats any kind of 9mm ammo you feed it period. a very fun carbine, and Price Point Won’t Brake Your Wallet Which a 9mm Carbine Shouldn't Under $700 ! Yes Please, if you need proof just watch any good reviews on this carbine on youtube guys in the USA have very good things to say about it.

I looked a LOT at the Hi Point for all the reasons you list but the 5rd mag was the deal breaker for me.
Ive seen the ruger on sale in mid $700's in the past few weeks. at at $200 difference the ruger wins. But when the ruger isn't on sale the $500 difference def makes the Hi Point worth a closer look
