By the way I do agree with a .22. At first I had zero interest in them. I bought my 243 first. Now I have two pistols in .22 and two rifles. They are a ton of fun, and inexpensive to shoot.
I'm going to go against conventional wisdom with rifle choice. I believe that you should get a semi rather than a bolt action. The reasson is easy. You can plink and get the spray and pray out of your system. With a 10/22 that has some upgrades or the Target model you will get a taste of decent accuracy (with the right ammo). If you get the accuracy bug then move on to a bolt action rifle specifically for target shooting.
Frankly the flush magazine is what won me over to the Ruger rather than the Remington. The rotary 10 round mag is excellent.
