I have a 1.5 week elk hunt planned up in the forest here in Sask. Ive tented a few years back elk hunting, it was just a cheap tent and when it rained it sucked. It was also pretty cold. Im doing a solo hunt, dont need a huge amount of room but something big enough I could hang out in case of rain, something that I could put a small woodstove in would be cool. Any suggestions.

Cheers!!

Tipi tent or pack tarp with a stove? A small canvas wall tent would work too, i think they are called snow trekkers.

I’ve got an old tipi tent and built a stove out of a 50 cal ammo can that works good. Have also used a 8 man kifaru with one of there stoves. The stove is nice for taking the chill off in the morning.

Check out Delux Wall Tents on Vancouver island.
I have had one for 5 years now with a wood stove (with attached water heater). It is very compfortable in cold wet weather.
Well built, solid frames, and easy to setup. Only down side is you can't carry it. You'll need a quad trailer or some other vehicle to carry in to camp.

Hilleberg . I have the Staika which is 2 person but is great solo. Got mine as new used for a grand. That said I have had a few prior inferior tents and cant say enough about the quality of hilleberg.

Tents.... One with a skirt that goes all the way to the ground is better

if it does not have a vestabul (spelling) (the front part) large enough to put some of you gear have a tarp that you can rig over the tent to put some of you gear

Just having some place to put something that is bulky -wet - or muddy is a plus

My dog and I have 3 hard backpack seasons on the hubba hubba nx, 4lb 7oz for the works, ground sheet, tent, fly, poles and pegs. Highly recommend for a good 3 season tent.

Regarding keeping warm; get yourself off the ground and get a really good insulating layer underneath you. Do this, and any standard sleeping bag will keep you warm.

2 seasons ago me and my buddy tented up in region 6 (Northern BC) moose hunting. Nighttime temps hit below zero and there was snow. We were both on air mattresses. He had some fancy 40-below sleeping bag and I had some piece of crap from Canadian Tire. He froze the first night and couldn't even sleep. I slept like a baby. The difference? I had a wool Hundson's Bay blanket folded in half between me and the air mattress.

A good tent to keep you dry is a huge help, of course. I don't think a stove is necessary unless you are going way sub-zero.

Check garage sales and Kijiji....I found a 9x12 Gander mountain tent with a canvas roof and nylon sides and floor....for $10!

Bought a $100 velcro stove jack from deluxe wall tents. Installed easy with heavy duty velcro kit from Walmart.

I used until late Sept. In zone 56, I made a fly out of heavy duty green tarp.

Small Woodstove kept me plenty warm.

9x12 will fit 2 cots and gear for 2 perfect. You could squeeze 3 in for a short hunt if needed.

I am going to try the Stove jack in my Cabela's 12X12 outback lodge teepee....not sure how stove will function in 100% nylon tent, I think you have to be careful with off-gassing.

Woodstove is a must for any tent....

Wow...$10 what a great find. I cruised through Kijiji and nothing there yet but will keep checking.

The $10 at a garage sale....everyone wants campers nowadays....??

It is probably a 20 year old tent (cabin style) 3 sets of metal poles, high quality zippers.

It was stored dry so it had no mildew issues.

The quality you used to find before everything was farmed out to lowest bidders in China.

Are you backpacking or car camping? I'm looking for a tent too but looking for something I can carry in my pack. Big Agnes and nemo are what I'm looking at now. Also the msr hubba hubba.

Taking my truck up w/ quad and trailer into the bush for elk. Doesnt have to be that light and portable as it will be on a quad trailer.

I can't speak for those outside of Labrador, but we have a wall tent, no windows, or floor, we use spruce bows for the flooring, and a small wood stove, it smells great in the warm of the stove, and we use sleeping bags, I love it, I have to set up a tent this fall haha
