Recommend a light mount for an 870

Hi all. Have an 870 with the magpul SGA fore-end. I'm looking for a decent light mount that I can attach to a section of pic rail (which would then mount to the SGA).
Any recommendations? I'm open to a universal type mount (I think they are 1 inch diameter) ... I've seen a few people just mount a WML/x as well which looks like a slick way to run a light...

thanks in advance!

A light on a shotgun that's fired at all often is going to take an awful pounding and may not last long, so unless you can find one specially made for the purpose, and assuming you don't need one permanently mounted, I would definitely go for something that's easy on and off. The only specialized one I can personally recommend all round would be the one available from Surefire (below) but that will likely cost at least half the price of an 870 these days, not to say you shouldn't take a look around for one, The others at the link are Streamlights. Anyone can look them up of course, it's just that I don't know about them.

Eotech used to sell a light I like a lot and still have on my Marine Magnum, however I understand they aren't being made anymore- possibly because many people in the doorkicker communities more or less hated them. I think that was because they made for an unfamiliar feeling forend. They are or were actually pretty great, on/off power switch, momentary or steady or strobe modes available from the big pressure panel switches on both sides. Maybe you can still find one of course.

It occurs to me that this thread should really be moved to the 'Black and Green' (ie tactical) Shotguns sub forum. I mean, there is no legal hunting or sporting purpose for having a light on a shotgun in Canada.

If you are doing anything other than looking cool I think the Surefire/Eotech fore ends are the best solution by far. Second would be picatinny rail section with a X300u or whatever quality WML tickles your fancy. Last would be a flashlight in a ring.

I think the older Surefire 618/318 LMG/FA/LM are the best (when they have or are upgraded to LED heads.) The DSF870 and Eotech are not quite as nice to handle.

It gets narrowed down to SF for me; having a forend that looks like a ### toy ( Eotech ) just simply won’t do.

Streamlight has just brought out a new integrated forend, search Streamlight on Brownells - looks like it should retail for under $300 here.

Interesting, same idea as the Eotech but maybe a bit more ergonomic, more like the original forend. Mossberg only at this point but other sources say it will be made for the 870 too. And like the Eotech it will always be right where you need it, never get lost or misplaced or left behind or in the other tent or whatever.

Check out Arisaka, great mounts and great lights.

I’m running an Arisaka 45 degree mount on my SGA forend with a Streamlight Rail Mount 2 light.

Don’t go cheap with weapon lights or mounts if they’ll be for serious defensive use. My shotguns setup for acreage use against large predators so I want to be certain my light and mount won’t fail.
