I'm looking for some guidance on a good shotgun that I can use for all sorts of bird hunting. What guage and a reliable make. My budget is $500-$1000. Thanks guys. I also plan to hunt goose, grouse, and duck.

Thanks for the responses guys. I own a wingmaster only issue is its a 12.5 barrelled smooth bore and I can't find any decent barrels for it. I've been looking at the Benelli super novas. not sure if I should go semi auto or not and stay away from the pumps.

I was thinking the same thing when I got my supernova but the way I see it you get 3 shots at birds, with practice you won't really notice a difference in speed but definitely in reliability in cold/wet/Canada .. Maybe newer semis don't have problems but I have more trust in a pump

I trust the pump more too. I do more casual plinking than I will hunting so I'm being stingy with my hunting budget and don't want to have to buy lots of hunting only guns. As far as pumps go I think it will be a supernova, still not sure on a semi.

I use my supernova for plinking too. Kinda a long barrel for foster slugs but they still go where I point, the half bead is also nice for slugs.. Not as good as rifled sights but still okay

From cruising the net I've basically narrowed down to either a supernova or a browning BPS. Consensus is the supernova is cheap and plastic feeling but goes bang when needed and the BPS is solid and reliable but more expensive and less adjustable and harder to clean.

I only have experience with the BPS out of the two you specify, and it is a solid gun. I use it for both bird hunting and deer hunting. As for hard to clean, its not. Its tricky reassembling the first time, but once you see how you do it, it is easy to do.

Either of those shotguns are tough to beat. The bps will be much heavier which is a big deal for me as I use the benelli for turkey hunting so every lbs counts when carrying decoys and stuff. The bps I had functioned as good as the benelli
