For late November/early December whitetail hunting here in SK I've been wearing my Caterpillar work boots the last couple years...not exactly ideal. They leave my toes pretty chilly if I try sitting and calling. I'd like to buy a new pair specifically for hunting in cold temps in which I do a lot of still hunting, stump sitting and calling.

I know personal fit is extremely important but I need some initial guidance here...I don't want to buy crap and be looking again next year. ;)

So what brands and/or models have you had good experiences with? I'm looking to spend $250 or less. Thanks! :)

I bought a pair of 800 gr. Rockies and love them. They are warm and quite comfortable. I also bought a pair of Sorrel glaciers. They are rated to minus 100. If it's that cold out, I'll probably stay home that day. :D

before you go for your boots are you going to be sitting a lot or moving is there snow or nothing and as anglinfool stated nothing under 800 grams. you may indeed find that you will need to spend a little more thn planned but worth every cent

I bought a pair of 1000 gr. thinsulate Irish Setter Deer Stalkers for $235. They are extremely warm when walking or dogging (sometimes too hot). For stand hunting I have found them quite warm if wearing wool socks. I typically have worn heavy cotton when walking, stalking or doggin'.

Have had them for 3 years and have worn them duck hunting, deer hunting and turkey hunting where I found them to be too hot. They seem to be wearing well but as I said only three years old.

I have also submersed them above the laces (as in walking through deep puddles) but not for prolonged periods of time and have found them to be quite waterproof as well.

Happy shopping!

Thanks for the feedback! That's a lot of stuff to look through and consider.

I'm definitely considering spending a little more and getting Danner's. Meindl's are supposed to be great too.

Not sure what I'm going to do yet but thanks for the suggestions so far. :)

Boots

Meindl's are great boots for the mountains, but for stand hunting or real cold go for more insulation. The Canada Pro's I wear only have 200grs.Mur.

REd Setter, Elk TRackers. Re-soled them after 12 months of very hard daily use on rock in the arctic. My feet were never cold or wet, temperature range -30C to +28C. I often immersed them in water and they never leaked.

Re-soled them with vibram for $70.

For someone using them for a couple of weeks of hunting per year, they'll last a long time. Well worth the money.

I just got my camo Pinicle Boots from Cablas there Ex i got the 400 thinsulate not the 800 as it aint that cold here. 15 inch high fully waterproof

They have No laces they zip up the front. If your backs hooped like mine it beats being bent over like a dog f**king a football twice a day :D

Easy on easy off. They cost me $227 total i love em :)
