I just bought myself (birthday gift) a TC muzzle loader. I want to place a scope on it. What would you guys recommend... manufacturer and power?

I have a cheapo Bushmaster Trophy on mine (on a cheapo CVA Hunterbolt. What can I say it was a combo deal I couldn't pass up). But if I was to do it again I would get the Nikon Omega muzzleloader scope. Set it up and your good to go for 50 to 250 yards.

The Nikon Omega is around $280 roughly. I'm looking at it myself, but wonder whether the ballistic hash marks will be useful. I'm looking for a scope for a Savage smokeless powder muzzle loader where velocity is probably a fair bit higher, as high as 2300 fps.

From a post here, SIR had a scope on sale for cheap ($53), made for muzzle loaders.

I put it on my 7x57 mauser, and like it.
Made in China, but what the bleep, for that price?
Model #A1145

There's a cautious part of me that tells me to get a dependable scope for a hunting rifle. A plinker or fooling around with gun, it matters less. You only get one shot with a muzzle loader and you need it to be accurate. I fear a cheap scope would let me down and I'm better off with using the irons than a cheap scope.

I use an old Weaver K4 on my Traditions 209 Tracker. Keep it simple. If I can't see something well enough with 4x, I shouldn't be shooting at it with a muzzleloader.

I am looking for one here in the GTA and can't seem to find them... where did you see the one you mention?

Its shown in the SIR catalogue, not that I've seen one in person. I might just put a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 on mine. I have one already and think its a good scope as well. The design should be sturdy if you can believe the Burris hype.

Don't waste your money on the Omega scope........worst ballistic reticle you'll ever look through. Great scope otherwise but the reticle is so crude that it's useless at longer ranges!

I've used Bushnell 3-9 scopes on several of the M/L's I've owned and never had a problem with any of them.
3x in the bush,6x on the prarrie and 9x at the range for spotting bullet holes.
I presently shoot a Savage 10 MLII Smokeless with a Bushnell ELITE 3-9x40 on it.

GRIZZ,I'm sure that BURRIS will work out fine...

I think your choice of scope should be determined by your hunting environment. I hunt mainly mature hardwoods, edge cover, cutlines, and swamps. The 2-7 magnification range works very well for me in this type of conditions. I just put a deposit down on a T/C Encore Pro Hunter and will be putting a Vortex Diamondback 2-7X35 with the BDC reticle on it. This reticle is very similar to the Burris ballistic Plex. I plan to shoot at varying distances until I find where each line ranges out to, then I will make up a table indicating the range for each line and tape it to the stock for quick reference in the field. I think it will work okay, better than just guessing anyhow.

I had a Burris FF2 BP on my ML, worked good. But as I didn't really use the reticle drops, I sold it and put a Leupold M8 4x on it, to save some weight. Haven't fired it yet, but I'm sure it will work well at the 100-150 yd ranges I'm shooting...
