Just picked up a Diana model 6 in nice shape outside and perfect bore after running some patches through it with a trimmer string (filthy dirty), but the darn thing does not seem to ####. [Paid too much at auction obviously but that is my fault.]

Not sure if it actually cocks the spring inside, but the trigger does not set and it appears that the linkage behind the trigger is not setting at all. I have no idea how this is supposed to perform since I cannot compare it to when it was working. My thought is that the thing is actually cocked internally and just not setting the trigger.

Looks like someone was fiddling with the trigger adjustment based on some marks and the fact the set screw was loose. I fiddled with the adjustment and it made no difference whatsoever.

I have considered that I could try taking it apart myself and even found rebuild instructions on the web, but I have never worked on air guns before and it would all be for naught if parts are required.

Thanks in advance for the help.

You should be able to feel the spring being compressed, as you break the barrel to #### it.
If the barrel moves freely, no load on it, then the spring is ether compressed, or the linkage that cocks the spring, is not moving it at all.

There are a fair few breakdown pictures online if you dig around. The main fussy bit, is to get the two gears in the right place on either side, so the contra piston moves the correct distance. If you are a little mechanical minded, you should be able to do it yourself.

Otherwise, dig around the web and see who has parts. Most like is that the same folks can provide, or point you at, a competent air-smith.

Thanks.

Well, it obviously is compressing the spring because it takes a fair deal of force to break the barrel all the way to bottom of travel.

Unfortunately the thing does not seem to ####.

I read something about hearing a double click of the trigger mechanism as it is fully cocked. So I guess it is an issue with the sear not catching.

The Diana Model 6 has the recoilless GISS double contra-piston system so are more complicated to take apart and put together than the Model 5 and most other air pistols.

Sent to D & L for repair.

I did not want to tackle that recoiless system for a first time air pistol repair.

Finally got it to #### and set the trigger. The trigger was way out of adjustment and I was carefully turning no more than 1/8 at a time.

However it needs new seals since all it will do is fire gunky crap down the bore which is likely degraded seal material.

I have set up a range for air pistol in the basement to practice during winter months. My club has an indoor pistol range, but it cannot be used with lead bullets. I know there are centrefire handgun ctgs loaded without lead bullets, but nothing seems to be available for rimfire which I would prefer to shoot indoors even though I used to shoot lots of centrefire at a police indoor range back in the 80s......and lead splatter be d*mned. It was closed to the public due to poor ventilation - or at least that was the reason given.
