I have a 223 which I intend to use for varmint hunting mainly coyote- so would be shots under 300 yds
I would like your recommendation for a reasonably priced scope , probably a 4x12x40 , or higher power
I realize one should get the highest quality scope one can afford, but in this case I do not want to break the bank
I have heard good things about the Vortex Diamondback and the Redfield Revolution
Your opinion please
Thanks

The Redfield Revolution is very good value for money, especially with the Leupold warranty backing.

You might like to have more than 12x magnification, but remember it doesn't make things closer, it just makes it look that way. If 12x magnification isn't enough for you to see your target well enough, you probably shouldn't shoot at live animals that far away.

Sightron SII Big sky 3-9X42 w/ HHR reticle.

Shots may come close to far. High mag rarely is a benefit with predators.

The optics on this stuff pretty much trumps any 1" scope on the market so you will be amazed at what you can see way out there. How about resolving grout lines on a chimney at 700yds?

The HHR reticle will come in very handy for making that quick longer distance shot.

Same price as a lot of reg. hunting scopes so a great deal.

PM or email if interested.

3-9x or 4-12x would be my choice. My 223 (SAN) wears a 3.5-10x Mark 4 but that's more scope than the usual yote rig needs (and more scope but I had it laying around).

6-18 or 6-20 is a good range. field of view is still large enough and that extra mag is nice when shooting a badger at 300 yards. Magnification increases your ability to see your target, just not sure how thats a bad thing when shooting critters.

I'm running a 6-18 on my .223...but I use it mostly for range work even though it is my dedicated coyote rifle. I don't like the AO on it as it's not easy to adjust in a hurry so a side focus or fixed parallax scope will be my next purchase...probably around 4-12 zoom if I plan on using it mostly for hunting instead of paper punching.

*EDIT* Oh...you will be happy with a Vortex, I have 3 of their products and like them all, but the eye relief isn't the most forgiving on all their models so keep that in mind.

I've got the nikion m223 on my Sps Tac in 223. I bought it a Prophet River. (site sponsor) they are great to deal with. I love it, it works great with the bulk ammo as well as my reloads. its set up for the 55gr bullet. I have the nikoplex rec on mine, just turn the top turret and away I go.

I have a votex viper on my .308, and its a very nice scope for the money. If you dont want to spend that much, you might want to take a look at some of the nikon line. The prostaffs are very budget oriented and the have a 4-12 with a BDC that might be right up your ally. I dont have experience with the prostaff line, but love my buckmasters.
