Hi everyone,

I am sure this comes up a lot but I would like some recommendations.

I am going to be purchasing a Marlin .17HMR rifle for my wife and I (we currently have a 10/22 and a Remington 700 in .223) and I am wondering what scope to use.

We are still new at this.

on the 223 I have a Bushnell Trophy 4-12 x 40 I think it is (not at home right now)

we mainly shoot 100-200 yards.

I would like to do a bit more long range with the 223 but I doubt she will shoot much more than 200yards with the .17

What do you all use / recommend for the .17HMR?

trying to keep price ~150-400$

The Nikon Buckmasters series would be worth a look. They have side parallax adjustment which is nice when looking at multiple targets like gophers...you don't have to take the rifle drom your shoulder to make the change.

Mueller 8.5-25x44AO Tactical on my Savage .17HMR. Great price, sunshade included and A LOT more magnification than I normally need but when it's needed, I have it;)
A very good quality for the price and from a canadian dealer. Try Whitefalls hunting supply.

They say the Burris 3x9 with the multi-plex reticle works great on the HMR, the reticles line up perfectly with the HMR's ballistics.
I had a Dusk to Dawn Bushnell on mine, took it off to put it on my .204 , when I got a good scope for my .204 I ended up leaving the $40 Tasco on my HMR, I am oddly happy with it.
My .17 is the Marlin as well, great gun, you will enjoy it.

I have a 20x on my 17 HMR (built on a Remmington Rolling Block #4, a "miniature" rolling block) and it is a bit too powerful. I have a 15x on my Marlin and find it is almost perfect. Something in the 10x to 15x should be ideal.
