Looking forward to getting my PAL next weekend. and cant stop looking at what ill buy first. im looking for some recommendations on the first Handgun i should get.

You're asking a question that is a vague as what kind of car you should buy.

What is important to you? Low price? High quality? Common? Rare? Revolver? Semi-Auto? Small calibre? Big calibre?

Well, P&D Enterprises and/or Al Flaherty's should still have the Walther PPX on sale for $600 something. Pistol, 3 mags, holster, and plastic case. That's as decent a deal for a new, non-knockoff, pistol as you're likely to find.

That said, the only real way to tell is to get your feelers on one. Not everyone has the same size or shape hands.

Just about everyone and their cousin will recommend starting with a .22 due to cheap ammo and a tendency to not make fair maidens swoon. If you do go that route, there are caliber conversion kits for the Glock 17, SIG P226, and a few others. That way you can use the same frame but just swap out the slide and magazines. Ususally a better value than just buying a completely new pistol.

i would check to see what your local gun shops have in stock, get a good feel for what you like, ask a lot of questions, and see what fits your hand comfortably.
i just bought my first pistol a couple months, a cz75b omega, and i am very happy with it. And i just bought my second pistol last weekend, a browning buckmark, cant wait to get it out to the range.

Glock is the semi-auto of choice for more people who rely on their pistol for life and death situations.

buy the gun that you like... what we like, may not be the one you will like. I would suggest that 9mm is far more than enough. But then other would argue that you will need something more than 9mm. Good luck !

Sig 226 if you've got fatt mitts like myself. Like others said, try one on for size first at the local store.

Welcome to the site, and good luck on your test.

You need to really think hard about the caliber you choose. A 9 mm runs around 30-38 cents /round. I shoot at least 100 rounds a week ($30-38). With my.22, I can shoot 500-600 rounds for that price.

My recommendation is to buy a .22*, and put some of your ammo savings away for a good 9mm. At that time, you will have a better understanding of what you want in a handgun.

*.22s aren't my favorite, but I'll never be without one. They are their own unique type of shooting, missing the muzzle flash and thunder, but not lacking in uses.
