Long time lurker, relatively new poster looking for some advice.

I'm finally taking the necessary steps to start actively competing in IPSC and would like advice on a holster for my Beretta 92FS.

A quick search on this site shows that some suggest a Ghost.
I'll be looking through the rulebook soon, but need a holster to be Production division compliant. (sorry if I'm talking out my butt here. Year end is a busy time at work thus not a lot of research time)

Any suggestions on what holsters would be the best to look at and which of our sponsors or other vendors would be the best to buy from, would be appreciated.

Also, I missed the black badge courses in and around the Toronto area last year. Anyone have any info on when the next string of courses are going to take place?
Nothing has been posted yet on IPSC Ontario's website.

Thanks in advance
Paul

i would get the bladetech stingray combo pack..... contains a holster with a belt aslide and the conversion plate to make it dropped and offset as well as a double mag pouch..... order another double mag pouch and a single and your good to go for under $200 US

and you would also be ready to go for IDPA/CDP/ODPL if you put the belt slide on and take the dropped offset off.

before diving into the pool with high end stuff check out some of the low tech to get your feet wet.

I agree with Westicle about the Blade-tech holster (for my M&P and SP-01) but I don't like their mag pouches. There's only one tension screw per pouch and I find I can get the tension right for one mag but the other one can still be too loose. Consider CR Speed for mag pouches. That's what I'm going to try next.

Thanks Westicle,
Just visited their website. The price is right and I'll definitely keep them in mind.

Was just doing a quick search for other holsters and came across a shooter in the US, Ben Stoeger.

Looks like a pretty interesting site.

He seems to be using a Beretta with a Wilson Combat Tactical Assault holster
Anyone have any feedback on these?
It looks like the interior of the holster would have less wear on the finish of the gun than the bladetech.

Please keep the suggestions coming.

oh, and if anyone here shoots at Sharon and wouldn't mind letting me play with their gear (that sounds wrong) please let me know.

Pauls, first off in IPSC you can use any holster you want for as long as it covers the trigger (USPSA has holster rules.) A kydex holster would be a good choice. Living down east i would contact Josko at Double Tap sports and go with a Bladetech.

If you're just getting started, you can make do with a cheap, $15 fabric holster. Once you're into the game and have an idea if you're going to stay, then you can look at the $50-500 fancy holster/gunbelt/mag pouch combo.

Thanks for all the responses and suggestions.

While I am new-ish to handgun sports, I'm not new to guns or competing with them.
The novelty of punching paper at a range wears off really quickly so as long as I'm able to shoot my pistols, I intend to do so in a competitive environment.

I'm a firm believer in buy once and buy right.
I know I have a 92FS and not a CZ or Tanfoglio. Its something I've always wanted and I'm going to try and be different by competing with it.

Having said that, I will still seriously consider the Bladetech, but any suggestions on something that may be a little better would be appreciated.

I'll be researching all options and making my decision then.
Thanks again.

pauls, bladetech will also ship direct, but if it is within reason I would still shop local if they have it in stock.... 911supply out of calgary is also a canadian bladetech dealer.

Agreeing a bit with Hungrybeagle.
Bladetech or Uncle Mikes newer kydex(they have more adjustment than the old ones) and if you decide you do not like it you are only out $25 or so and you still have it as a backup.

If you're looking at Ghosts, you're looking at competition holsters - so you might want to have a look at the competition holster that the 3 of the current World Champions and the majority of other champions use. It's also the most popular and biggest selling race holster of all time. CR Speed. Here's a list of it's accomplishments: http://www.crspeed.co.za/category.aspx?categoryID=39

Available through us or any of our many dealers nationwide.

I just ordered my own Bladetech last week directly from them. If you're quick you may get in on the year end sale they had. I saved around $20US for just the DOH holster from what I figured after the dust settled. Look for the red numbers.

all great holsters - Bladetech, CR Speed, Ghost, Sickinger, Speedsec
go with what is comfortable and capable of meeting your future expectations.
again all great holsters with proven track records!
European holsters Like Sickinger and Speedsec as well as the Bladtech are firearm specific
The CR Speed is universal (a few parts need to be changed, nothing major) and will accommodate several different type of firearms
Good luck
PS
CRAFM has most of these in stock
