Recommendations for installing Chokes in Japanese Auto-5

Ryan j , have you looked into a replacement barrel for your Auto 5?
Years ago, my buddy bought a minty on in a ''Light''configuration.
It came with a 30 inch barrel full choke and non vent ribbed barrel.
Back before the advent of the internet we had catalogues from Brownelles , US Calvary , Cabelas and such.
We found a Hastings Barrel for inexpensive $$ and was available South of the border.
Yes, long before the Restrictions now in place, but they still make Hastings Barrels with chokes for Browning Auto 5's.
Sorry for the long winded post, but there is a possible less expensive or cost effective option some do not entertain.

A Hastings bbl will be about $&450-$500no invector system avaliable IT will be after market chokes which is just fine

This is actually a spare 30" Fixed Full Barrel that I would like to have threaded to make it more useful.

I'm just looking for someone that does really good work as it's a mint barrel and I have a set of Invector Chokes already.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I think you will find the following to be of interest.....
Any genuine GUNSMITH that is set up to do this work properly charges appropriately. The cost of the choke tubes is not included.
There are a few smiths across the country who are set up for this and have the experience and a good track record.
The job must be done on a lathe with a pilot to keep the work centred and true to the bore. If the choke is installed at the
slightest variation from the true bore axis the gun will not shoot true to point of aim. A cross eyed gun is pretty well useless
You most certainly can NOT install Invector Plus tubes in a standard Browning barrel, the bore size is too small and there isn't
enough wall thickness. If the combination of inside bore diameter and outside diameter allows, standard Invector chokes
may work but I know of no one in Canada who has the correct tooling to do this.
Bottom line - find a choke tubed barrel or have the full choke PROFESSIONALLY opened to Light Modified ( perfect for most uses by most shooters), this would be the cheapest, or sell the gun and buy one with tubes. Cheaper and far less potential grief. J.

I was told Briley chokes are the ones to use?
Was also told by a competent gunsmith that the Browning barrels
are somewhat thin and once the threads are cut to accept those
of the choke tubes there isn't a lot of meat left.
I opted to have my full opened up to a modified to accept the
use of steel shot.

I'd sure like to hear from those that have had this procedure done and
how they thought about this?

Happy New Year's folks.
We lost another gunsmith here locally...................:(

I have two late model Japanese Magnum Twelve Auto-5's one with a 28" Invector barrel and the other setup with a 24" Buck Special that has been ported and threaded for Tru-Chokes.

The work on the 24" Buck Special Barrel was done in the US and you'd think it was a factory job...

I could leave this spare 30" alone and shoot some trap with it occasionally but I think it would be pretty nice to have with Chokes.
