RECOMMENDATIONS - Looking to get my first AR. Chime in!

Hey guys, i'm looking to make my first AR purchase. I've saved up almost $2000 so i'm looking to keep the total cost around there (preferably lower), meaning the cost for the AR + any accessories and modifications. What are my options? What do you use? Ideally i'd like to buy an AR and keep it long term as i probably won't buy another, so i think it's more important to have a reliable base to start on (i'm guessing i'll probably put more money into it later when i can find some more cash to spare).

I'm wondering if starting off with a Norinco might ruin the OP's experience with owning the AR platform. Could he spend a touch more cash to get something with a much higher standard of quality?
 
I was in the op's shoes about 2 weeks ago. Decided to go with the colt expanse ce2000, after tax and shipping it was about $1200. I felt it was the best for the money and still left me $800 to spend on accessories. I haven't received it yet, the cfo is backed up but I think I made the right choice. Good luck

The only thing wrong with Noringo ARs is that they're ugly, and the magazines they come with can be absolute trash. If that doesn't bother you, they're fine.

colt 6920 from irunguns for new or ee for used
used acog from the ee

thats just a little over your budget for new, right on your budget for used, and you are good to go for years and good for any other upgrades in the future since its a colt and its the standard of milspec.

Why spend money on a non standard piece of kit that doesnt fit anything or explodes in your face?
 
Build ur own AR. Start with a colt canada stripped lower, 200 bucks rite now. Then put what YOU want on it. That's what I did. Instead of buying c complete rifle then buying new pieces and replacing half the gun. This way u can have the colors u want. Parts u want. Barrel length and calibre u want. You will get a better understanding of the rifle by building it urself and a better sense of satisfaction and accomplishment when ur done. It's not hard to do and its fun. YouTube some videos and get some ideas.

For a first gun buy a full build not a put together. Keep to solid brands, colt, Daniel defence, stag, etc. And enjoy!!

Screw norc, double screw NEA, if you want a good budget AR with decent glass,The windem weaponry ones are very good and come in around the $1000-1200 range... very reliable and accurate. Everyone i know who has bought one loves it.

Beyond that... as other have said build one. The tools to do it arn't crazy expensive and like a custom computer you can build a very nice one for less then buying it "complete" from a store. You can even get barred upper receiver so you don't have to worry about ####ing up head spacing.
 
1. Don't buy NEA
2. Don't buy a franken gun (put together by an amateur gunsmith)
3. Buy the best you can find with half your budget, keep the rest for mag, ammo, optic and the crap you're going to try out
4. Not too long but not too short of a barrel (around 14")
5. A well used/abused good brand is better than a newer not as good brand
6. Don't buy NEA
