I’m looking to find a hunting load for my SBL. Torn between the 300 grain flat nose and 300 grain hollow point offerings from Barnes. Target game will be mainly whitetail and black bear. There is a chance at elk as well though and on the right years I will have a moose tag in my pocket. Been having a hard time finding much for projectiles. If I could find 400-405 jacketed soft points I’d possibly go that way. The hollow point 300gr Barnes looks like it would expand great but may not have the penetration….. Thoughts Or experiences?04008912-C235-4A79-93FF-A9E0204BA08B.jpg

This is a thought, not based on experience, but I do not think penetration will be lacking with the barnes 300gr tsx.

I have shot deer with other brands of 300gr bullets and had no problem whatsoever, they shed weight & still penetrated, the Barnes tsx does not shed weight, should penetrate even better.

I'm only familiar with the tsx from barnes in 300gr, what exactly is the flat point? I do have some 400gr barnes flat points.

Should have said flat nose flat base.

I'm pretty sure those and the pic you posted earlier are the same bullet. I have never seen anyone refer to them as a "hollow point" before(obviously they are), just tsx flat nose(therefore suitable for tube magazine rifles). Barnes does also make a 300 gr tsx that is pointy, so not suitable for tube mags.
