Alright guys, I want your input on a new AR upper that is actually available in Canada. I will consider build suggestions but I've never put on an AR-15 barrel before and don't have the tools etc. If I lived in the US I would just order a Larue upper but that doesn't look like an option right now.

The upper needs to meet the following criteria:

-Free Floating barrel with a quad rail
-Barrel length of 18"-22"
-Shoot at least 2 MOA and closer to 1 MOA is preferrable
-Be capable of shooting 5.56 ammo (mk-262 and similar)
-Must be capable of shooting 77 grain projectiles
-Price range of $2000ish
-Be made by a reputable manufacturer
-Actually be available in Canada

Fire away your suggestions!!!

check out the Rock River Arms Varmint upper from Questar. Can get barrel lengths from 16 to 24 inches. 3/4 moa gaurantee

Hmm had a Noveske upper that fits thats SPF right now. Good luck.

I would buy a barrel thats pre-chambered and spec'd to a bolt then buy/build your self.

Spikes makes an 18 inch Lothar Walther stainless match barrel, 1:8 twist, 18 inches. Its free floated in a Daniel Defense lite rail.

I shoot Federal Gold Medal Match in Sierra 77s.

Just put one together.
Used a new take-off 1:9 .223 Savage barrel. $100. Barrel extension, gas block, gas tube, muzzle brake, $175. DPMS LoPro upper, got it a while back, $125. New CMMG bolt carrier ass'y, under $200. DPMS tubular handguard with barrel nut, $75. Didn't add rails because I have no use for them.
Under $2000? I should think so.

A good option, but get a faster twist as its to slow for the 77s.

Yes, 1:9 might be marginal for 77s. I've tested the SMK 77s in the 1:8 barrel I use in competition, they do shoot well, but are a bit of overkill at shorter ranges. Ive pretty much standardized on SMK 69s for all ranges.
The upper with the Savage barrel is pretty much ready to test, as soon as the weather breaks. Savage barrels have a good reputation, if it shoots really well, I'll use it in competition, if not, it will be good for practice.

I'm doing the same thing right now but my budget is substantially less than $2000. At that price Bob's your uncle pretty much.

I'd probably go with Alberta Tactical Rifle for an assembled uper. What I'll probably do is build one with a Lilja barrel headspaced to the bolt. From what I can tell there's not much to building an AR upper. I'll let you know in a couple months if I'm wrong and have no face left...lol

As soon as I get my Norc M4 I'd like to build my own upper in 7.62x39. Like tiriaq I can gunsmith it myself and have or will get the tools.
What are all the components I need to build a complete upper?

Barrel
Flat Top Upper Receiver with bolt assist, charging handle and latch
Complete Bolt Group Carrier in 7.62x39
Gas tube
Free Float Handguard
front gas block
barrel nut and extension
comp/muzzle brake
mags

Anything else I forgot and what would be the lowest cost for parts?
I already have some barrels I can modify and ream.
