Recommended Big Game hunts for new guys

For me the top North American hunt would be Dall sheep, closely followed by coastal grizzly. The most handsome trophy IMHO is a bull caribou. Mountain caribou are the largest, and this would fit in nicely with the sheep.

The OP is a novice looking to improve his hunting skill set. I don't think he's quite ready for a Dall hunt at 10,000 feet or a Grizz at 20 yards in the willow and alder beds of BC or Alaska.

The OP should ask around at his gun club to see if anyone is interested in acting as a mentor. Joining a hunt club is another route. If he's looking to book a hunt, the best bet is to speak directly with the outfitter and explain that you are a novice looking to learn from the most experienced guides he can that are willing to teach. Keep phoning outfitters until you find one that fits.

If spot and stalk hunts are what drives you, there are worse hunts than a Newfoundland moose/caribou and bear hunt to consider. Hunter success rates are quite high and you can drive to the island from the mainland.

Not to worry jjohnwm. My ATF form 6 is all in order. Hawaii seems to have different / additional regulations requiring you to register your gun with the police.

Yes, you just fly in as usual with your guns, but you have to visit the police station a reasonable amount of time after arrival with your gun(s). I went in two days after arrival, no concerns, fingerprints and a chat and you're off.

I like your planned Wyoming Antelope outing !
You might also consider something like a Quebec Moose Hunt and/or Caribou hunt and perhaps Mule Deer in B.C. or Alberta.
Elk & Sheep (you'd better be in shape !) when you gain a little more experience.
