My experiance with the Butler Creek is its a reasonable quality item for the $$$ But man o man it smacks ya in the face with big loads. My wrist was a bit sore after and it chaffed the top of my thumb. That being said I am a dumbass love the heavy loads...They go for about $120ish retail and are easy the install and remove (ya might need a shim so be sure to ask) I only like the folder for backpacking purposes or when space is an issue...a normal stock is much better IMO for general shooting and messing around.
Some top end 'tac' shotties are furnished with pistol grip and or stock combos...I am sure the boys will be able to offer better advise than mine from a tactical perspective..
I like the Choate products and tend to stick to the pistol grip full stocks as well. 3in magnum slugs with just a pistol grip or even a folding stock tend to hurt pretty quick while the PG full stock helps me with recoil control.
The 870 I fired had a folding stock and pistol grip similar to the police model, I fired it with the stock extended. but I also know a number of other people that prefer not to use pistol grips with full power slugs.
