Recommended Rifle for CRPS

Thanks guys for the recommendation.
I would love to have a CZ457 but I just bought a new 10/22 a few weeks ago to see if I like the sport. (Ended up loving it!) Is it that much of an upgrade going from a $430 10/22 to a $900 CZ457?
I'm kind of bothered by the idea of selling the gun soon after buying it. And I probably don't need two rimfires.

Use the 10/22 if you already have it.

You can always upgrade to a new in the future if you outgrow it. You can also upgrade the 10/22 - lots of aftermarket support for the 10/22 and precision upgrades.

Enjoy.

It depends what you want to do. If you are going to leave the rifle as is and shoot it until you find it’s limits, keep it. If you are going to put money into it to upgrade, a 457 might be better value for the upgrades. 10/22s can be pretty accurate. Oh and nothing wrong with two rimfires!

Thanks

I bought a Vortex Venom, a rail, and a set of rings, then put them on my 10/22.
Also gonna get a box of CCI standard velocity. Hopefully, this new setup will yield more precise results tomorrow at the range.

I feel like 10/22s got a lower limit than the CZ or Tikka, with or without upgraded parts. So I will keep looking at CZ 457s while I'm playing with my 10/22. If someday I reach the limit of the 10/22 or find a good deal, I can always put the Venom on the CZ 457.

I should get a basic model of the 457 if I plan to upgrade the gun in the future right?

This will only tell you how the rifle shoots CCI SV, no way will it say anything toward the potential

That just depends on how long you intend to keep the factory barrel. You can always spend a bit more and go right to the open class, getting a variant with the MTR barrel. Either way, you'll probably change the stock before the barrel.

If you want to run a 10/22 for CRPS and ORPS matches, moving to open is the way to go. Barrel swap, better stock/chassis, ballast, bits and parts to make it function 100% and you are still at a reasonable cost vs starting with a CZ and building up. My Open build using a factory donor costs way less vs a CZ open rifle with similar upgrades. Of course, you can spend a small fortune building up a 10/22....

Competed for years with a tuned up Open 10/22 and have had no issue keeping up and beating the bolts both close and far. the success is really tied to ammo and barrel and bedding... and you.

If you must stay in production, I have yet to see a factory 10/22 shoot well enough in factory form to compete way out there. You might be able to make it work for ORPS???? If you are definitely not going to modify stuff, then the CZ457 varmint/target is the best place to be

Glad you made it out to give it a try

CZ 457 MTR seems the way to go of you want to keep it stock. If not, A419 does a really cool full CZ457 build in a few different chassis options, as do a few other gunsmiths.

Try CCI SV, Norma-Tac, and any Elly, Lapua, and SK you can find. Rimfire rifles are very specific to the ammo they like. Finding the right ammo matters more than 10/22 vs. CZ!

Shoot 10 round groups with each one from a bench. Lotsa ammo opens up after 100 yards, so I would recommend shooting groups at 50, 100, and 200 to see what your rifle likes!

Don't stress about staying in production, everyone shoots together and both classes have beginners... and there are also some really solid shooters in production.

As for the CZ, get one of the models with the Match barrel and pillar bedding. Sure, you are wasting a bit of money if you change the barrel and stock, but you may find that it shoots so well you will keep it as is.
