Hi everyone :D

I would like to know what mods are needed/recommended for Norinco SKS's with non removable mags.
I'ts my first SKS and I don't have a clue what to do to it :?
I'm thinking of getting an Weaver mount so that I can mount a red dot on it.
I don't know what kind of base to get so that when it's mounted, I would also be able to use stipper clips.
I would much rather get something that needs to be drilled and taped to the receiver cover.
Are there any recommendable, and inexpensive, gas system mods one can do?
What about stock?
I'm considering refinishing it by staining it green :)

I welcome all input as always,

I would leave it stock. Don't touch the gas system. Millet makes a scout rail that replaces the rear sight with a picatinney rail. This would let you use a red dot scope or a LER pistol scope and still use the stripper clips. The reciever cover mounted scope rails wiggle and make you single load the rounds. Also, having the empties banging off the scope are not too good for it. I would go with the scout mount and a cheap Aimpoint clone.

Out of the box the rifles are fine, just clean all the cosmoline out of it, make sure the gas system is clean and DRY and go out and blast off some rounds. If you are using the Czech rounds make sure you clean it very well and flush the barrel and gas system with boiling water to remove the corrosive salts.

I did the wolfe spring performance pak to the hammer and sear spring plus a little buffing to the sear rails and grooves and it feels a 100% better and seemed to shoot better too!

Sorry to tell you guys but I got them from a member(Frig. good guy) who doesn't have any more. I mailed him right away to ask for another pack after I saw what a difference it made on the feel of the trigger, ie horrible to pretty good. He said he got them thru Brownells in the states. Maybe we can get a legal group buy that can be passed by the mods? On the topic of recoil buffers, it doesn't sound like a good idea. No real dif. in recoil but sometimes affects cycling and causes stovepipes

The Choate D Stock is great. andthe amipoint replica is a great buy for the money. Stay away from any rear cover replacement scope/sight mounts. Get a good forward mount, (not the one that replaces the gas tube). or Go to Kalinka and get a good mount. that requires machining the receiver. They even have picatiny rails now. Beware the Duckbill mags, if you dont have a model D already.

Firing pin replacement for sure!! and a sturdy stock, bolt buffer... Stay away from the duckbill mags unless you want to have issues. Some ducks work alright,, but they aren't worth the $$

I think I'll cook up a scout type rail gas cover when I have more time at home to machine the aluminum. But I first have to find some more aluminum blocks.

I am still trying to get mine apart, the bloody trigger group won't come out so I can clean it, looks like a trip to Levers to get them to show me what I am doing wrong.
