Although I’ve owned pistols and handguns for a long time, I’ve not shot much in the last few years. I’ve started shooting a bunch more and I’m wondering about the recommended spare parts that you all would suggest I have on hand. I shoot 1911s (and there’s lots of information about those) but I’m not sure about what spare parts to have for my Ruger SR9 and SR45.

I recently found out about a source, for spare parts for the striker fired Rugers, and I’m wondering what you all think are common items that break?

Cheers,
D

Firing pin, firing pin spring, recoil spring, extractor, ejector and magazine spring would be a good start.

I have SR9 Magazines and a large variety and lengths of magazine springs if you ever need feel free to Pm me anytime.

It always seems to be the next spare part beyond the ones you have on hand, or at least any failure you can quickly fix is sooner forgotten.

At a minimum, I'd want spare magazines and spare recoil springs. Usually, when a (problematic) magazine draws your attention, it may be repairable, so I'd also like a spare magazine follower, spare magazine spring, and a spare magazine floorplate.

Sometimes, with particular models there will be known (wear) issues (such as the magazine release in a Glock, or the slide stop in a CZ-75, or the extractor spring in a S&W 5900-series), in anticipation of which you can add (those) parts, but in the case of your Rugers I've not heard of them being known for (wear-related) issues.

Ruger's reputation for product support (long after the sale) is pretty solid, but sometimes you can be left high and dry and without your Ruger (while waiting for the service to be completed); if you have some spare parts - in advance of needing them - you can avoid any downtime.

To that I'll add... whereas your Rugers are both striker-fired... an extra 'trigger bar reset' (aka a 'connector'). (It's a spring, so it'll wear out if it's used.)

Canada Safety Source is showing the (aftermarket) Ghost GHO-2105-D2R (upc 644406231059) @C$36.99 +taxes.
