I was thinking of getting a 'red dot' scope for the .22. Just wondering if I should go for a Tasco 1x30mm ($45 Walmart) or a Marstar 1x50mm ($60) or Tasco ProPoint 1x25mm ($115). I'm not familiar with any of these, and no one I know has a red dot, any suggestions?

re red dot

Hi there reading your notes with interest bought a RED HEAD red dot when I was in the states. Only problem is it does not fit the ruger 10/22 bases. Any aftermarket bases out there that are wider and longer?

Thanks

JHC-II is it made for a weaver base? You can get adapters to go from Weaver to rimfire style 3/8 grooves.
Red dots are great, I like the smaller dot sizes for .22
1-3MOA dots are more precise and cover less target if you are shooting at small things.
1-3MOA equals 1-3 inches at 100yards so if your rifle shoots into 3 inches or less why get a big 5moa dot size?
Problem is the smaller dot sizes seem to cost a little more. Some have adjustable dots or multiple recticle options but I have not tried them.
Bushnell is just coming out with some new models and they have a new Holosight that has a 1MOA dot with a bigger circle around the dot and uses AAA batteries. It looks pretty good but I think it's around $200.00

I was going to get a reddot because they are small but I decided to go with a 3-9x32 tasco scope. I if it sucks, then I will buy a red dot. They do look better imo

I've got a Tasco 1x20-something, the cheapest one that SIR sells. It's made entirely of plastic, and the battery is exposed to the elements. Needless to say, it didn't last very long, and it's now on my younger brother's pellet gun :D I replaced it with a 1x25mm NCStar unit from ebay, it's all metal and I've had zero problems with it so far. It fit the dovetail perfect, it's nice 'n short and lo-profile, overall I'm very happy with it. Hope that helps!
