Red dot for a shotgun

I posted this in the "Sporting and Hunting Shotguns" forum but thought I might get more responses here.

My friend is looking to put a red dot on his semi-auto 12 ga. shotgun for deer hunting. I can't see a cheap red dot standing up to the recoil and he doesn't want to drop $500 on an Aimpoint or EoTech.

Does anyone have any suggestions about a decent red dot that will stand up to the recoil but not break the bank. I'd like to hear from people who are using this type of combination.

Primary Arms and Holosun red dots are very rugged and half the price of an Aimpoint.
There are lots of videos on YouTube of guys beating the $#!& out of them and they seem to hold up just fine.

I put a little Vortex Viper on mine, seems ok so far, but haven't shot it that much.

All I can say is that I have fried a Vortex Sparc and an EOTECH on my shotguns. (Both in the middle of a stage in a match too)

My first choice would have been a trijicon like I have on my FNX but couldn't justify the price till I tried the cheap option first.

No issues for me on my 590A1.

+1, it's a solid red dot. Had one on my Fabarm and it handled the recoil from slugs and 00buck fine, magnum loads too.

I have a Vortex Sparc Gen 1 on my 8.5" Grizzly and a Sparc II on my Stoeger M3500 deer gun.
Both have been flawless and have lifetime warranty.

I have something similar to that on my Benelli M4, can't remember the brand but I know its not Vortex, I would recommend the Vortex though purely for the warranty in the event it does fail due to recoil

That style of red dot works very well though, I literally lifted the M4 out of the case (bought it used with the red dot mounted) and started nailing clays.

Bushnell TRS 25 you can pick them up from 100-150$.
Ive had one sitting on a 20ga and another on a 30.06 for a couple years now with no problems.
Will probably be buying another in the near future.
