Looking for opinions on a red dot for my ruger backpacker. Nothing crazy fancy or expensive was looking at a vortex sparc but open to whatever anyone has had good luck with.

Thanks,

Bushnell trs25 is the defacto affordable decent red dot, buddy has one on a 10/22 in an arkangel nomad, goes well IMO. I've got a vortex crossfire on an sks that I really like, very similar to the trs25 but it claims a 2moa dot vs 3moa on the trs25.

I got the crossfire on sale, otherwise I would have gotten a trs25 as they're a bit cheaper normally and also on sale all the time.

Sig Sauer Romeo5 which has shake awake, an awesome feature.

Cheers
Jay

I've got a Sparc on mine. They are bullet proof and have a great warranty. The Bushnell TRS 25 are also an option if you want to save a few bucks.

With the Romeo5 make sure to get the one that includes the low and high mounts. I see a new version has just been released, I do not know what the 2024 version brings new and whether it is better or worse?

Would the shake awake turn it on while bouncing around in a backpack or is there a way to temporarily disable it or something?

Yes and yes. I turn the Romeo5 off when in transit, hold the + or - button for a few seconds. Force of habit for me. But battery life is apparently excellent so changing it once a year and leaving the dot on MOTAC might be the easier alternative?

I have a Holosun 403B on mine, seems to be a good fit for the rifle.

I have many red dots and have tried many of them too. Vortex AR is my default these days for the not too expensive category. Excellent battery life, very rugged, easy to use features and easy battery replacement.. I like Holosun too. TRS25 is a battery eating piece of trash.
