Red Dot for the 870

Most of the red dots and low power telescopic sights are listed as suitable for rifles. I was told that the recoil from shotguns and muzzle loaders differ from that of a rifle and will damage the optics.

Any thoughts on makes or models... I could use some help

I put a shotgun specific Bushnell Banner Dusk to Dawn 2-7x32 on my 870 rifled CL slug barrel and it works like a charm..only have about 25 sabot slugs thru it tho...seems to be holding up fine..

Put many a Vortex Sparc or Strikefire on 12 gauge shotguns with no issues. Kind of what they build them for.

Those little red dots can take absurd amounts of g's

The circle and dot make it great for not only shotgun patterning at distance but also the red dot is perfect for slug.

I run a Vortex Sparc on my 870 for 3 gun shooting and it WORKS GREAT!!!

Aimpoint Micro on my 870, and same optic was on my Benelli M4 before I got rid of the gun.

Thanks everyone. Some great ideas But!!! I'm looking for something to use for the days I'm in a shotgun only area for deer. Is there something decent less then the $300 + or - I paid for the 870.
