Hey Everyone,

I am looking at putting at red dot on my VZ58. What have you guys been using on yours and how do you like them? I am looking at an eotech or perhaps a c-more.

Thanks for any info you may have.

Mike

With limited funds i went with this NcStar from Marstar. Works quite well at 25-50yds and looks great on the Fab handguard.

im using aimpoint T-1 micro on scout mount , i like it except i need to put shim on the rail for the micro to fit snug.

ooh, ive been contemplating one of those infratek rails, does it actually retain zero after disassembly and reassembly like they say?

Can't really say yet. I haven't been back to the range since I cleaned it last.

It was a PITA to get setup, but I'm pleased so far.

I'm gonna throw my humble opinion in the ring. If you're looking for a red dot on the handguard then stick with a Mini such as the Fastfire from Burris or Micro from Aimpoint. I have had both and they are quite nice. If I were to mount a MRD forward on a VZ it would be either on a FAB handguard or the scout mount, they are both relatively light and generally more stable then the accuracy of the round or most shooters so you're good to go. POI will change on the FAB unit after removal but nothing serious and once it settles back into place it should be within 3-4 inches if installed properly. The scout mount can remain in place for cleaning if you wish.

Any ideas on how to mount a Red dot and keep the irons? The infratek Top looks great but I'd prefer to keep my POI and avoid having to remove the mount for cleaning.

Something like a scout mount but clamped on the barrel just in front of the gas port is in order.
Somebody did post on a mount he hacked out of a readily available one.
I would like to see something making use of the barrel as a clamping point and relying on the two small horizontal ridges found on the gas port assembly for lateral stability.
There you'd have a very steady platform where you could bolt adapter plates of different lengths and thicknesses to allow co-witnessing with any known reflex sight models.
Anyone interested? Hey Supra!

The channel in the rail is very small, sight pic with just irons isn't that great.

I don't intend to take the rail off. I'll take the lower handguard off and use brake cleaner and WD-40 to keep the gas system clean. If it stops running, I'll take it apart.

I don't doubt that you will do a good job but I must point out to people that you NEED to ensure that your boiling water, windex or whatever anti corrosion cleaner you use generously gets into the gas port area. If you don't corrosion will develop in the hole in the barrel and this is not a good thing. The only way I know of to do that is to remove the piston or at least pull it fully to the rear while you pour cleaner in there and scrub it out as best you can. I have no idea how you would be able to do this with the UHG in place. Cleaning the piston itself is a non issue in comparison to the bore as it is fully crome coated anyhow. This is really only an issue with corrosive ammo of course.

Not a slight against you Stevo, I'm just pointing it out. :D

Great information fellas! Anymore ideas? I really like the look of the OKO but, as mentioned, they are a little tricky to find.

Has anyone tried an Eotech or its cousin, the Bushnell Holosite?

I've mounted a Halosight on a handguard and had no problem hitting clays @ 75m consistantly. Its a bit high though and you really will want either a cheek riser for the stanard stock or an aftermarket stock that sits higher then the factory one.
